Malaikari is made by cutting a round ball of chhana in half and spreading thick milk kheer over the cut faces. The story in town is that Janaki Nag's sweet shop in Swadeshi Bazar, said to be Mymensingh's first sweet shop, created it about a hundred years ago for a shraddha hosted by the Muktagacha zamindar, who wanted something new. It stayed on the menu and spread across the city. Krishna Cabin, open since 1958, also makes it and supplies sweet sellers in Mymensingh and Netrokona.
