Gopalganj is low, watery country on the Madhumati river, laced with beels and canals. Farmers here grow vegetables on floating beds of water hyacinth, the Matua faith holds its great annual gathering at Orakandi, and Tungipara draws visitors to the grave of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
