Gopalganj's wetlands provide an abundance of freshwater fish. Climbing perch (koi), stinging catfish (shing), snakehead (shol) and small fish like puti and mola fill the markets after the rains. Home cooks make them into thin jhol with potato, gourd or shapla stems from the beel. Eating a home-cooked fish meal is the best way to taste the district.
