Fulbaria Lal Chini
ফুলবাড়িয়ার লাল চিনি
Fine, reddish hand-made sugar from sugarcane juice, a GI product of Fulbaria.
Farmers in villages of Fulbaria upazila boil fresh sugarcane juice and work it by hand into a fine-grained, reddish-brown sugar, without machines or chemicals. Locals date the craft to the British period, roughly two and a half centuries back. It is used in sherbet, pitha and home sweets and has a deeper, molasses-like taste than white sugar. Fulbaria's lal chini received Geographical Indication status in 2025.
