The haors of western Habiganj are among the most productive freshwater fisheries in the country. Markets in Baniachong and Habiganj fill with fish such as boal, rui, koi and many small native species, especially as the water recedes after the monsoon. Local cooks make light curries with potato or vegetables, and crispy fried small fish.
