Shankarpasha Shahi Mosque (Uchail Mosque)
শংকরপাশা শাহী মসজিদ (উচাইল মসজিদ)
A small Sultanate-era brick mosque from around 1500, with one big dome and three little ones over its verandah.
The Shankarpasha mosque at Uchail, south of Habiganj town, dates from the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah, around 1494–1513 by different readings of its history. Tradition links it to the conquest of Taraf by saints who came in Shah Jalal's wake, and the tomb of Shah Majlis Amin lies beside it. The square brick prayer hall carries one large dome, with three smaller domes over the narrow verandah and thick walls pierced by many doors and windows. It was long swallowed by jungle and has only been rediscovered in recent times, which keeps it off most itineraries.
How to get there
From Habiganj town take a CNG toward Rajiura union and Uchail village (Habiganj Sadar upazila).
Good to know
It is a working mosque; dress modestly and ask before photographing inside. The pond behind it is a nice spot to sit.
