Swastipur Shahi Mosque
স্বস্তিপুর শাহী মসজিদ
A small domed mosque by the Kushtia–Jhenaidah road, thought to date from about 1660, in Shaista Khan's time.
Swastipur Shahi Mosque stands in Swastipur village of Alampur union, about 11 km from Kushtia town on the Jhenaidah road. Researchers date it to around 1660, when Shaista Khan was governor of Bengal, which makes it one of the oldest signs of Islam in the district. The prayer hall is small, with thick walls and a slightly larger central dome among smaller ones. It has been repaired many times and a veranda was added later, so much of the old fabric is hidden, but it is still in daily use.
How to get there
Take a Jhenaidah-bound bus or a CNG from Kushtia town and get off at Swastipur (about 11 km).
Good to know
A short stop on the way to or from Jhenaidah; avoid prayer times if you want to look around.
