Rose Garden Palace was built in the late 19th century by the Hindu zamindar Hrishikesh Das, who was famous for his rose garden. The pale classical mansion with its columns, fountain and statues later passed to another zamindar family. In June 1949 the Awami League was formed here, so it also has a place in political history. Film-makers have long used it as a set, and it is now in government hands.
