Lalbagh Fort
লালবাগ কেল্লা
An unfinished 17th-century Mughal fort with lawns, a tomb and a mosque, a calm green pocket in Old Dhaka.
Work on Lalbagh Fort began in 1678 under the Mughal prince Muhammad Azam and was continued by Shaista Khan, but it was never completed. Inside the walls are three main buildings: a three-domed mosque, the audience hall with its hammam, and the tomb of Pari Bibi, Shaista Khan's daughter. Gardens and old water channels connect them, and the red-brick gateways make good photographs in late-afternoon light. It is one of the few places in Old Dhaka where you can sit on grass and hear birds.
How to get there
