Chomchom from Porabari, a village on the Dhaleshwari just outside Tangail town, is one of the best-known sweets in Bangladesh and holds Geographical Indication status. Made from chhana, it is cooked slowly in syrup until the outside turns brick-red and slightly crisp while the inside stays grainy and juicy. It is often dusted with dried khoa. Many shops in Tangail town sell it, though locals argue over which is closest to the original.
