Tangail Saree Weaving

The Tangail sari is a fine cotton or cotton-silk sari woven with bright borders and small woven motifs. Weaving families, many from the Basak community, have worked the looms in villages such as Pathrail in Delduar upazila for generations. You can hear the rhythm of the looms as you walk through the lanes, and many households sell directly from home. Bangladesh registered the Tangail saree as a Geographical Indication in 2024.

Good to know

Buying directly from weavers in Pathrail usually costs less than in city shops.
