Chattogram's legendary community feast of slow-cooked, spice-rich beef served to hundreds of guests at once.
Mezban is both a dish and an event. Families host these feasts to mark a death anniversary, a celebration or a blessing, and invite anyone who comes. Huge pots of beef are cooked with a local spice blend until dark and glossy, served with plain rice and a thin lentil soup made with beef bones. Several restaurants in the city now serve mezban-style beef every day, so travellers can taste it without an invitation.
