Mekurtari Shahi Mosque stands in Byaparipara village, about 1 km north-east of Rajarhat upazila town. With no inscription, its date is uncertain, but its Mughal-style design suggests it is a couple of centuries old. Local tradition says it was built by a village landowner, Chhamir Uddin Byapari, after he returned from walking all the way to Hajj. The narrow building, about 32 feet by 10, carries three large domes, four tall corner minarets and eight smaller ones, behind a low wall and a decorative gateway. It is a protected monument that few outsiders know.
