Jamuna Bridge
যমুনা সেতু
A nearly 5 km bridge across the braided Jamuna, linking the north and west to Dhaka.
Opened in 1998 and long known as the Bangabandhu Bridge, this road and rail bridge is one of the longest in South Asia. It spans the Jamuna between Bhuapur in Tangail and Sirajganj, ending a long dependence on ferries. A separate dedicated rail bridge has since been built alongside it. From the western approach and nearby riverbanks you can watch the wide, shifting river and its sandy chars.
How to get there
Buses between Dhaka and the north cross it; the western approach is near Saidabad in Sirajganj Sadar.
Good to know
Stopping on the bridge is not allowed. Enjoy the view from the riverbank parks near the western end.
