Jamalpur Shahi Mosque (Gayebi Mosque)
জামালপুর শাহী মসজিদ
A village mosque in Sadullapur that local lore says reappeared when a storm felled the banyan hiding it.
Jamalpur Shahi Mosque stands in Bara Jamalpur village, about 6 km west of Sadullapur upazila town. Local tradition links it with the saint Hazrat Shah Jamal, after whom the union is named, and says it lay buried and overgrown for a long time. In the early 1960s the Gaibandha SDO went looking for it with villagers, and when a storm brought down a huge banyan tree the old mosque came into view. Since then people have called it the Gayebi (mysteriously appeared) Mosque. A veranda was later added in front, a shrine said to be Shah Jamal's sits beside it, and a large pond lies in front.
How to get there
From Gaibandha take a bus or CNG to Sadullapur, then an auto about 6 km west to Bara Jamalpur.
