A long riverside embankment near Gaibandha town, looking out over the Brahmaputra and its chars.
Just a few kilometres from Gaibandha town, Balashi Ghat is a river port and embankment that has become the town's main outing spot. Green slopes run along the levee, with views across a wide braided river channel dotted with chars. Country boats, horse carts on the sand and fishermen at work make it lively in the dry season. On clear days some people say you can even see distant hills to the east.
How to get there
About 6 km from Gaibandha town; take an auto-rickshaw or CNG.
Good to know
Go in the late afternoon. Boats can be hired to the chars; agree on the fare first.
