Chhanar polao is a chhana sweet named for its grain-like, pulao-style look, made from local cow's milk and good sugar. Jamalpur's version is known for being noticeably less sweet than most Bangladeshi sweets, which suits people who find rasgolla too sugary. Makers cook it over a wood fire, which they say gives it its particular flavour. Ask for it at the older sweet shops in Jamalpur town.
