Jamuna Char Peanuts

চরের বাদাম

Fresh peanuts from the Jamuna sandbanks, roasted in hot sand and sold by roadside vendors.

The sandy soil of the Jamuna chars suits peanuts, and they are one of the main dry-season crops in the char villages. After harvest, vendors roast them in pans of hot sand and sell paper cones of warm nuts with salt and chilli. Fresh boiled peanuts are another local snack. It is a simple taste of the river islands.
