The raised red-soil land of Gazipur suits jackfruit trees, and Kapasia and Sreepur are among the country's best-known growing areas. In early summer the trees are heavy with fruit hanging straight off the trunk, and roadside stalls pile them up along the highways. The ripe pods are honey-sweet and fragrant; the seeds are boiled or added to curries, and young green jackfruit is cooked like a vegetable. Buying one straight from a grower is a classic Gazipur experience.
