Set up in 1965 and opened to the public in 1974, this small museum in Agrabad is the only one of its kind in the country. Its galleries show the dress, tools, weapons, ornaments and household things of the hill and plains peoples of Bangladesh, with dioramas of daily life. More rooms were added between 1985 and 1995, and a gallery of folk objects from Bengali village life came in 1996. It is a quick, quiet stop that helps a lot before a trip to the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

How to get there

CNG or bus to Agrabad; the museum is on Sabdar Ali Road near Badamtali roundabout.

Good to know

Pair it with a visit to the hill districts; it makes the cultures you meet there easier to understand. Check the weekly closing day before going.
