Satkhira Sandesh

Satkhira is one of the country's big milk districts, and its sweet makers are known nationwide; sandesh is the one they are proudest of. Fresh chhana is cooked with sugar, or in winter with new date gur, which most locals prefer. Fakir Mistanna Bhander, founded in 1947, is the oldest-known name in town, and Sagar Mistanna Bhander is famous for sandesh and swarpuri. In Kalaroa, the Ghosh families of Ghoshpara village still make sandesh by hand over wood fires.

Ask for gur sandesh between December and February.
