The Pathrail Mosque, also called the Majlis Aulia Mosque, stands in Bhanga upazila beside the shrine of Majlis Abdullah Khan. Its long prayer hall, about 22 metres by 9, is roofed with ten domes of equal height, and the walls carry rectangular terracotta panels with floral scrolls and rosettes. It is usually dated to the 15th or early 16th century and is compared with the Choto Sona and Bagha mosques. A large old water tank lies beside it. Few travellers on the new Bhanga expressway know it is so close.
How to get there
From Bhanga go east about 8 km along the Bhanga–Mawa road to Polia, then take an auto or van about 4 km south to Pathrail.
Good to know
It is an active mosque, so visit outside prayer times and dress modestly. Combine it with a stop at the Bhanga interchange on the way back.
