Khalia Rajaram Temple
খালিয়া রাজারাম মন্দির
A terracotta-decorated temple and zamindar house of Raja Ram Rai in Rajoir upazila.
In Khalia village, Rajoir upazila, stand the remains of the estate of Raja Ram Rai. The temple facade is covered with terracotta panels showing figures, animals and scenes from Hindu epics. The surrounding buildings are partly ruined, and preservation work has been patchy. It is a rewarding stop for anyone who likes Bengal's terracotta art.
How to get there
Bus or CNG from Madaripur town to Rajoir, then an auto to Khalia.
Good to know
Do not touch the terracotta panels; some are fragile.
