Maharajar Dighi lies at Bhitargarh in Amarkhana union, about 15 km from Panchagarh town. Tradition says it was dug in the reign of a King Prithu, whose fortified city once spread around it. With its banks the tank covers nearly 54 acres, about 800 yards long, and the earthen banks rise some 20 feet. The water stays 40–50 feet deep even in the dry season and is famously clear. Every Pohela Boishakh a large fair is held on its banks, and on other days it is a calm place for a walk under the trees.

How to get there

From Panchagarh town take an auto or CNG north-east to Bhitargarh/Amarkhana (about 15 km).

Good to know

Visit around Pohela Boishakh for the fair. Swimming is not advised as the tank is very deep.
