See the place on video
North-east of Panchagarh town lie the remains of Bhitargarh, a large fortified settlement enclosed by earthen walls and moats. Local legend links it with a King Prithu, and archaeologists have uncovered brick structures, temples and pottery here. Large old ponds, including the Maharaja's Dighi, still dot the area. Much of it looks like ordinary farmland, which makes discovering the ramparts all the more intriguing.
How to get there
About 15 km from Panchagarh town; hire an auto-rickshaw and ask for Bhitargarh and Maharaja Dighi.
Good to know
Go with a local who knows the site, as there is little signage.
