The NGO ESDO started this museum in 2006 at East Akcha village, about 4 km north of Thakurgaon town, to keep the everyday life of working rural people on record. The folk gallery has ploughs, dheki husking pedals, a palanquin, a bullock cart, coins, jewellery, pottery and wedding things. Another gallery covers the Santal, Oraon and other plains ethnic groups. The river gallery holds bottled water from about 200 Bangladeshi rivers, some of them now dead, and the Liberation War gallery keeps soil from killing fields across the country.
How to get there
Auto or easy-bike from Thakurgaon town to East Akcha, about 4 km north.
Good to know
Call ahead or check locally for opening hours, since it is a privately run museum. Good for children who have never seen a dheki or bullock cart.
