The Liberation War Museum was started by a group of private trustees who asked ordinary people to donate money, letters, weapons and belongings from the 1971 war. Its collection has grown to more than 21,000 items. In 2017 it moved from a cramped old house in Segunbagicha to a purpose-built building in Agargaon, with far more gallery space. The galleries walk you from the Language Movement through the events of 1971 to independence, and some displays are hard to look at. Give it a quiet couple of hours.
How to get there
Take a bus, CNG or ride-share to Agargaon; the museum is on the road between Agargaon and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, near the metro rail's Agargaon station.
Good to know
Check the opening days before you go. Some galleries show graphic images of the war, so prepare children beforehand. Bags may need to be left at the counter.
