Kakina, in Kaliganj upazila, was the seat of one of the notable zamindar families of the region. Parts of the old estate, including gateways and buildings, survive among later houses and trees. Locally it is linked with the zamindar Mahima Ranjan Roy Chowdhury, remembered for his interest in culture and learning. It is a quiet glimpse of the cultural life of the old north.
