Jor Bangla Temple (Gopinath Temple)
জোড়বাংলা মন্দির
A mid-19th-century temple shaped like two thatched village huts joined together, in brick.
This temple on the north-east side of Pabna town follows the jor bangla style, in which two curved-roof hut forms are joined side by side. It dates from the 1850s and is dedicated to Gopinath, a form of Krishna. Traces of terracotta decoration remain on the facade. It is small but a good example of how Bengali temple builders turned village house shapes into sacred architecture.
How to get there
About 2 km north-east of central Pabna; take a rickshaw and ask for the Jor Bangla mandir.
Good to know
Combine with Suchitra Sen's house in the town centre.
