Halud Vihara
হলুদ বিহার
A tall mound of an early medieval Buddhist monastery, a short drive from Paharpur but rarely visited.

Halud Vihara lies about 14.5 km south of Paharpur, in a village locals also call Dwipganj. The main mound is about 65 m by 40 m and 10 m high, with brick walls of what may be a large hall exposed on top and a flight of steps on the eastern slope. Excavations in 1984 and 1993 showed it was a Buddhist site of the same period as Paharpur, and Buddha images, terracotta plaques and coins have been found here. It is on UNESCO's tentative list, yet you will usually have it to yourself.
How to get there
From Paharpur or Badalgachhi take an auto-rickshaw or CNG south to Halud Vihara village.
Good to know
Visit on the same day as Paharpur. Much brick has been carried off by villagers in the past, so please don't take anything.
