Kusumba Mosque

কুসুম্বা মসজিদ

A 16th-century grey stone mosque beside a large pond, pictured on the old five-taka note.

Built in 1558–59 during the late Sultanate period, Kusumba Mosque is unusual in Bengal for its outer facing of dark stone over a brick core. It has six domes in two rows and fine carving on its mihrabs, including a raised platform inside. The mosque overlooks a wide pond, and the reflection of its sober facade in the water is memorable. It remains in use for daily prayers.

How to get there

In Manda upazila, about 35 km from Naogaon town; take a bus towards Manda and get off at Kusumba.

Good to know

Dress modestly and avoid prayer times. Combine with a drive across the Barind countryside.
