Gopinathpur Temple
গোপীনাথপুর মন্দির
A centuries-old Hindu temple in Akkelpur, the focus of one of the district's biggest fairs.
Gopinathpur Temple lies in the countryside east of Akkelpur and is dedicated to Gopinath, a form of Krishna. Local history links its founding to an endowment from the Bengal Sultanate period, and the temple has been repaired several times since an earthquake in the late 19th century. The surrounding grounds come alive during the yearly fair, when devotees and traders arrive from across the region. On ordinary days it is a calm place to see village temple life.
How to get there
From Akkelpur upazila town (south of Joypurhat), take a CNG or auto-rickshaw about 6–7 km east.
Good to know
