Sada Pathor, Bholaganj
সাদা পাথর, ভোলাগঞ্জ
Where the Dhalai river comes out of the Meghalaya hills over a bed of pale stones, reached by boat from Bholaganj.
At Bholaganj in Companiganj upazila the Dhalai river leaves the Indian hills and spreads over a wide bed of white and grey stones, which gave the spot its name, Sada Pathor (white stone). Boats run from the ghat up to the stone bed, where people wade in the cold, clear water with the green Meghalaya slopes behind. In mid-2025 large-scale looting stripped much of the stone and left bare sand in places; the administration then recovered and dumped back a great deal of it, but the site may not look as it did in older photos. It is still one of the most visited day trips from Sylhet.
How to get there
From Sylhet city take a CNG or bus to Bholaganj (about 33 km, roughly 1–1.5 hours), then hire a boat from the No. 10 ghat to the stone bed.
Good to know
Currents can be strong in the monsoon; stay in the shallows and wear a life jacket on the boat. Do not cross toward the border markers. Never take stones away.
