Bichanakandi

বিছনাকান্দি

A wide bed of boulders where cold streams from the hills spread out in clear, shallow pools.

Bichanakandi, in Gowainghat, is where several streams from Meghalaya pour out onto a plain of stones, creating a shallow, clear river you can sit in. Mist and waterfalls hang on the Indian hills just beyond. The boat ride from Hadarpar across the haor is part of the journey, and the water is cold and refreshing in summer and rainy months.

How to get there

From Sylhet city go to Hadarpar via Salutikar (about 1.5 hrs), then a boat to Bichanakandi.

Good to know

Wear sandals with grip; the stones are slippery. Water levels rise quickly after rain in the hills, so leave if the current increases.
