Malnicherra Tea Estate

One of the oldest commercial tea gardens in South Asia, rolling green right at the edge of the city.

Malnicherra was established in 1854 and is widely described as the first commercial tea garden in the region. Its low hills are covered in neatly clipped tea bushes, shaded by tall trees, with tea workers plucking leaves through much of the year. A short drive from the city centre, it is the easiest place in Sylhet to walk among the tea.
How to get there
About 15 minutes by CNG from Sylhet city toward the airport road.
Good to know
Stay on paths and ask before photographing workers. Some areas may need permission from the estate office.
