Noudabas Shalban is a sal forest of roughly 83 hectares in Noudabas union of Hatibandha upazila, about 6 km east of the upazila town. Locals reckon the forest is around two hundred years old. Under the old sal trees the Forest Department has planted cane, and foxes, jungle cats, mongooses and monitor lizards live here. In winter migratory birds add to the resident species. It sees almost no tourists, which is exactly its charm.
How to get there
Take a bus from Lalmonirhat to Hatibandha (about 60 km), then an auto or van about 6 km east to Noudabas.
Good to know
Go in daylight and in company; there are no facilities. Ask the forest beat office or villagers about paths.
