Banana is Narsingdi's leading fruit crop, and the district is known for sweet, aromatic varieties such as sagar and amritasagar. Bunches are carried by van and boat to big wholesale haats before heading to Dhaka. Ripe ones are soft with a rich, slightly floral flavour. A hand of local bananas with tea and muri is a classic roadside snack.
