Narsingdi's Madhabdi and Sheikherchar area grew rich on weaving, and the haat at Baburhat is its trading heart. On market days traders from across Bangladesh crowd its lanes buying saris, lungis, gamchas and grey cloth straight from local mills and looms. It is a working wholesale market rather than a tourist bazaar, which is its appeal. Come to watch the trade and pick up a gamcha or lungi at a fair price.
How to get there
Bus to Narsingdi on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway; Baburhat is beside the highway west of Narsingdi town.
Good to know
Go on a main market day; ask locally which days the haat is busiest.
