Hazari Gur
হাজারি গুড়
Pale, fragrant date-palm molasses from Harirampur, a GI-registered winter delicacy.
Hazari gur is made from the sap of date palms in Jhitka and Gopinathpur in Harirampur upazila, a tradition said to be about 350 years old. Gachhis tap the trees on cold nights and the sap is boiled down at dawn and beaten into light, crumbly cakes with a delicate aroma. It received Geographical Indication status, and fewer families make it now, so the real thing is prized. Eat it with muri or in winter pitha.
