At Bethuli near Mallikpur in Kaliganj, a single banyan has sent down aerial roots for two or three centuries, each becoming a new trunk. The original tree has died, but its offspring still form a shady, connected grove often described locally as the largest banyan in Asia. Hindu devotees treat the site as sacred, and stories warn against cutting its branches. Walking beneath the canopy feels like entering a green hall.
How to get there
From Kaliganj town, take an auto or van about 8–10 km east to Bethuli village.
Good to know
Don't climb or break roots; the trees are under stress from visitors.
