Keane Bridge

কীন ব্রিজ

Sylhet's old iron bridge over the Surma, the city's best-known landmark, beside the Ali Amjad clock tower.

Keane Bridge was built over the Surma in the 1930s and named after Michael Keane, then governor of Assam, when Sylhet was part of that province. Its arched steel spans are the classic picture of Sylhet, especially with the red Ali Amjad clock tower and the riverbank at its northern end. It is now closed to heavy traffic, so it is pleasant to walk across in the evening when the lights come on and boats move below.

How to get there

In the city centre; a rickshaw from Zindabazar or Bandar Bazar takes a few minutes.

Good to know

Come around sunset and walk the bridge, then sit at the Surma riverfront by the clock tower.
