Hatiya Island

হাতিয়া দ্বীপ

A large, lived-in island in the Meghna estuary, with rice fields, markets and wide river views.

Hatiya is an old island upazila at the mouth of the Meghna, and the stepping stone to Nijhum Dwip. Its villages are surrounded by paddy fields, ponds and coconut palms, and its ghats bustle with fishing boats and launches. Riding across the island by motorbike gives a feel for coastal farming and fishing life that most visitors never see.

How to get there

Launch from Dhaka's Sadarghat (overnight) or sea truck/boat from Chairman Ghat in Noakhali.

Good to know

Crossings depend on weather; do not travel during storm signals. Wear a life jacket on small boats.
