Work on the Gorai Railway Bridge began in 1865, when the line from Kushtia was being extended east towards Goalundo. It is described as the first major railway bridge in present-day Bangladesh. The iron spans over the Gorai, with sandbanks below in the dry season, make a quiet spot for an evening walk along the riverbank. Trains still cross it, so the bridge itself is not for walking.
How to get there
From Kushtia town take an easy-bike east towards the Gorai riverbank by the rail line.
Good to know
View it from the bank; do not walk on the bridge, as it is a live railway line.
