Bunches of red, juicy lychees sold fresh from the orchards for a few short weeks in early summer.
Alongside jackfruit, Kapasia and Sreepur grow plenty of lychee, harvested over a few weeks in May and June. Growers cut whole branches and tie the fruit into bunches of a hundred, which is how they are counted and sold. Freshly picked fruit has thin, red skin and very juicy flesh. The season is short, so if you are in Gazipur then, look for orchard-side sellers.
