Daulatdia and Goalanda Ghat
দৌলতদিয়া ও গোয়ালন্দ ঘাট
A historic ferry ghat near where the Jamuna joins the Padma, busy with ferries, trucks and fish sellers.
Goalanda was once the terminus of the Eastern Bengal Railway, where passengers transferred from train to steamer for Dhaka and Assam. Today nearby Daulatdia is the main ferry ghat linking the south-west to Paturia and Dhaka. The scene is noisy and endlessly busy, with ferries loading buses and trucks and hawkers selling everything from cucumbers to fried fish. Standing on deck mid-river gives a real sense of the Padma's size.
How to get there
Any bus between Dhaka (via Paturia) and the south-west stops at Daulatdia; from Rajbari town take a bus or auto.
Good to know
Keep valuables close in the crowds; take a ferry ride across and back for the river views.
