On 5 August 1971 a group of freedom fighters sheltering at Jagannathpur moved towards Bagowan and ran into a Pakistani ambush laid in a sugarcane field by troops from the Natudah camp. Eight of them were killed in a fight that lasted about two and a half hours, and villagers buried them in two graves, four to each. The site, named Aat Kobor after those eight graves, now has a memorial complex with a small Liberation War museum, an open-air stage and gardens. Mujibnagar, where the first government of Bangladesh took oath, is only about 6 km away.
How to get there
From Chuadanga town take a bus or CNG to Damurhuda and on towards Natudah and Jagannathpur, or visit on the way to Mujibnagar from Meherpur.
Good to know
Combine it with the Mujibnagar Memorial the same day. It is close to the border, so carry ID and stay on the main road.
