Nafakhum Waterfall
নাফাখুম জলপ্রপাত
A wide, roaring waterfall on the Remakri river, reached by boat and trek from Thanchi.
Nafakhum is where the Remakri stream drops over a broad rock ledge, creating one of the biggest waterfalls in the country by volume. Getting there is an adventure: a country-boat ride up the Sangu from Thanchi past stone rapids, then a trek along the riverbank through Marma villages. The falls are at their most powerful in the rainy season, though the journey is safer after it.
How to get there
Jeep to Thanchi, register and hire a licensed guide, boat up the Sangu to Remakri, then trek a few hours to the falls.
Good to know
Guides and registration are compulsory. Thanchi has been closed to tourists at times for security reasons; check current notices before travelling. The river rises fast after rain, so do not cross streams in a flood.
