Kotkoti are small fried pieces of dough coated in jaggery or sugar syrup, crisp on the outside and slightly chewy within. Stalls lining the road at Mahasthan sell them in large heaps, and pilgrims to the shrine traditionally take a packet home. They are simple and very sweet, best eaten fresh. Watching the sellers weigh out paper bags is part of the visit.
