In East Angaria village, about 2.5 km from Rajapur, three mosques stand in a row from south to north, built to the same design but in rising sizes. Local history says Kishor Khan, whose family came from Afghanistan to preach, built them in the first half of the 18th century, and they are known as Allah, Muhammad and Fatema. Each has one dome and four octagonal corner towers. Only the largest is still used for prayers, and it holds just 21 people. Kishor Khan's tomb lies to the south and an old pond with a ghat to the east. The complex was declared a protected monument in 2005.

How to get there

From Jhalokathi town take a bus or auto to Rajapur, then a rickshaw or auto about 2.5 km to East Angaria.

Good to know

The active mosque is tiny, so step in only outside prayer times and dress modestly. Ask locals for 'Khanbari masjid'.
