At the end of the rainy-season retreat, Buddhists offer new robes to monks. At Rajban Vihara the offering is made in a demanding traditional way: cotton is spun, woven, dyed and sewn into a robe within twenty-four hours, with women working through the night on looms. Huge crowds gather from across the hill tracts, making it one of the largest Buddhist gatherings in Bangladesh.
